    Default Where are they?

Looking at the old threads posted over a couple of years there were a lot of members on the forum, where have they all gone, ? (to greener pastures, perhaps)

They're still out there, lurking.. biding their time for when my back is turned. Then they will strike!

But seriously. They tend to come and go.. we did have a relaunch a couple of months ago, hence the new activity.

I'm here - I was here *all* the time, many years ago and then I was never ever here, and now I am here sometimes ...

    Life is busy.

Plus I'm trying to think of some good threads to start, that aren't just bitching about my life in general!

Can we see our number anywhere?

I'm constantly thinking of threads to start, then I realise that they're actually not that interesting or thought-provoking. Like Penny's, they often seem to be plain old venting or rhetorical questions. Apparently there's a communication skill that encourages conversation, but I fear I was born lacking that particular talent.

I was born with a communication skill that encourages conversation - it was called a babble button. Mostly it involves me talking and someone else listening - or at the very least pretneding to listen.

From how I understand it - New Zealanders are generally humble.. not wanting to 'blow their own horns' so to speak. If one pops his head up and does something worthy of recognition, others step in to complain about the attention they are getting.

Do you think that is why so many leave NZ - to raise their head in other countries?

Is it changing or is it stayin the same with the increase in immigrants from different countries?

    Thanks for the reply

I find NZers interestings - we do suffer from the "Tall Poppy Syndrome" but ont he toher hand we can also be immensly proud of what others achieve to the point where for example int eh case of sports, we do not believe that anyone else could possibly beat xxx sports person.

It's ok to achieve in sport, in fact you are seen as a 'star'. Have a nice bank balance, a flash car etc.etc. and the tall poppy syndrome is alive and well.

Coming from the USA success is always judged by what you have. Having been there and lost it all to rebuild again I believe success is being ok with not needing it all

I am definitely going to be a Tall Poppy in NZ. I want to do what is best for me and the country I live in. And all the success we have will be put into helping others realize they can do it themselves

Yeah, well there's only so many chiefs and the rest of you's are just born to be indians and that's just the way it is.
A leader leads, and the sheep just follow.
Saying you're too shy,is really just a polite way of telling people, that you're just too fucking scared to try.
There are 3 types of people in the world:there are those who think about what they should or shouldn't do and only parents say should or shouldn't,can or can't,so the parent tape in their head actually stops them from doing a lot of things:there are those who don't think about what they do,but just do it and a lot of them end up dying younger and there are those who think of trying something new,who do it and who get things done.
They are the thinker-abouters.The doers-who-don't-think-abouters and the thinker-abouter-and-getting-things-doners.

Martin, not a bad rendition. Not everyone can be a leader, we do need Indians. People who sit back and are too lazy to get off their backsides to help themselves are a real pain in the butt. And there are quite a few in this country, especially since the 80's with douglas's restructuring of the economy. There are people who lost their job, went on the dole and never bothered getting off it, generations later they are still receiving the benefit along with their kids, and believe they are entitled
