Anybody here got a blog? What do you use it for?

I run a couple, each focusing on an area I'm interested in, one on the Matrix, and another one on a ridiculous, ludicrous and very interesting new sport, chessboxing.

Also, If you're familiar with Movable Type (www.movabletype.org), it recently got a loud angry response to its new licensing scheme. Anyone got some views on

A blog, or weblog is an online journal. Used to be that blogs were one's personal musings and writing (much like a diary but for the public to see) published for online and public consumption. But after its popularity started getting into peoples' radars, it started getting used for a lot of other things, all the way to publishing and as a content management system. But basically it is used so that anyone can easily "post" a blog/journal entry on a website. One of the most popular of such services is Google's Blogger service.

I've tried, but I already write so much for my job and for my other sites that I never got off the ground. I tried Word Press and I liked it quite a bit, but I haven't compared products.

Cool. I've used Wordpress's predecessors b2 and b2evolution (and liked the latter), and while I haven't used Wordpress itself (since I began using MT) like its standards compliance. Movable Type was really the way to go until the crazy licensing changes. Then as if to answer everyone's complaints on MT, Blogger suddenly gets revamped into something far far better than it was originally.

Moveable Type seems like a good script but I hate installing and troubleshooting cgi scripts. Much prefer php myself. Wordpress was a bit too complicated for my liking. Nucleus is much better, imo.

Just what' wrong with a properly configured vB, I'd like to know.

Configure permissions either to allow people to reply to their own posts but not others' posts in your blog forum or allow select 'bloggers', for lack of a better term, their own private blog forums each.

Eg: I make a 'Bloggers' Forum.

I set it so that people can start threads, but not reply to others ones.

whatcha mean... you mean using vB as blog software or an alternative to it?

If so, that is quite for a different purpose (blogs and forums that is), blogs being more content oriented than the forums' dynamic community approach (much like Excel feels easy to use to a (MS) Word user, even though they are for different uses), but certain hacks and add-ons do create crossover functionalities, most notable in vB being the journal hack.
