Default Internet Dating - On TV

Y'all in NZ may want to flick on TV2.

On Flipside tonight is an article on Internet Dating, and what happens when it goes wrong.

The little bit on the preview showed a guy with a laptop and a familiar site. (No, not NZB.)

Hmm...apparently last week, a West Auckland man was 'going on a date' with someone he met online, but ended up getting chucked into a car boot and driven off.

    Or something.

He forgot rule #1. ALways have the first date in public and in the open, it's help to bring a friend to watch your back until you give them the ok.

Yup, the show (Flipside - youth current events type show) had a senior constable on, and that was the main thing he said about safety.

I met Sparklechick through this NZ dating site..kinda...(we were both members, but just randomly happened to turn up to a party...she was brought there by a friend of mine and I was made to get off my ass and go by someone else) and therefore, it must be good for something.

In all things, the people make the situation.

If you happen to meet people who you can get along with and form frienships with, as I was lucky enough to, ( you guys..you know who you are) then great.

Sadly, there are some people whose aim doesn't seem to be love or friendship, and bad things happen. But you get that.

Also, in saying that...the first person I met off there (not a date, just a 'meet some of the internet dating freaks' mission)...I didn't tell anyone where I was going.

Tho I don't *think* I was in any danger, those chinchillas were pretty scary looking. :P

Actually that's a very sensible way to generalize life at large. Whether it's Internet, video, penpal or whatever method, the same care for safety should apply, because like it or not, as much as there are good friends and apples out there, it's the few rotten ones that can destroy the whole bunch.

I wonder though why they had an article about internet dating on a youth programme though, considering you have to be 18 to sign up.

I would think that other site might now get bombarded with kids signing up and pretending to be 18.

Oh well, their problem I guess.

    Oh yes, true!

Bugger, there goes my idea of advertising NZB by sending Flipside my report on how NZB is so much better.

I think they have realised that there are lots of people watching that show that are also "young at heart" if you like. I sometimes find myself watching it, and find some interesting things on it, however am hardly home now its on at 5!

and for the story, click yonder

The best bit, right at the end:

"It's not just a place for ugly people to find sex but an alternative to getting hammered before nailing some chick you met in a bar. It fits in to our busy life styles, you don't even have to leave the house."

*rolls around on floor giggling uncontrollably*

I couldn't have put it better myself.
