Topic: How many people have you met off the net?

Yes this is an old and done to death question but I'm still interested in hearing the experiences of those here.

So have you made many if any good friends?
Any bad experiences?
How do you find people stack up in real life as opposed to their net personas?

I've met a few people off the net, particularly when I was with nzd.

I had some good experiences and some not so good experiences. I went to a couple of events which I didn't enjoy at all (due to bad behaviour of some attendees).

I have met some amazing friends though and am certainly glad to know them now. I also sort of met Kall via the net and that is definitely all good

I found the majority of people were quite like their net personas with only a few exceptions.

Lots. Lots and lots and LOTS!

I met the lovely Sparklechick, made a couple of good friends, several good acquaintences and also irritated one or two people.

Most of the people I have met tend to match themselves online...apparently I do as well. When I met one person for the first time in person, her response was "OMG! You do talk like you post!"

Wellll..... When I was in 6th form, and Mum being a teacher, she got connected to this thing called schools net, it was way fun, I could explain it all but I wont. But you got to talk to heaps of people from other schools, and I must have met bout 10 or more people from there. One is one of my best friends now, and one was my friends boyfriends friend, which to me was freaky at the time, and I went out with him for a bit.

And then Xtra came out with their cehap internet stuff and so we were introduced to the real internet, and I met just one person from there, who was then my partner for a fair few years and the reason I am in Auckland. And I also met his friends and stuff who I had also talked to online. And then I was involved in that, so I didn't really use the internet much at all, except to e-mail and stuff.

And then I have met like 3 people I met on NZD, no events or anything.

And from NZB, I met and made a good friend in kiwi_dude.

I have a scheduled meeting with Gil from france from the rugby boards, for one day when he and his family get their butts over here or I get over there. Hes cool, he used to play representative rugby for France, and has played against/with many of the greats from SA and France and stuff of the moment.

I've been on BBSes and the net for a long, long time, so pretty much all of my friends are either from it or on it.

I relate far better to the people I've met on the net, there aren't as many sad little hidden downsides to their personalities that come out like what real-life-met friends have. People show a lot more of themselves on here.

oh well Penny - join the I know raine club :wink: hehehe... Well all my experiences have been good really... if not for nzd I'd still be in the Far North (it just is - neither good nor bad)... and wouldn't have met so many in chch.. so yay for the internet. Kept me sane over this past winter - (I think?)

It was a nice surprise, I just went along to kill some time on a Wednesday evening, and to others, and then there she was, so that was kinda cool.

Umm about 40???? at a rough guess.

I have a few acquantences. and a few really good friends/mates. off of the net.

I'm from the Far North too. Not quite as far as Kall though.

I have so far kept online and offline lives separate.

Hell, I've kept online, online, online..., and online lives separate thanks to a different persona everywhere I went.

Until TAZ, that is.

I've met probably 20 or so net people,many are just the same as they portray themselves in cyberland and some are even better.
