    Question Maoriized

    Hi.

I have noticed this past year the number of increasing maori t.v programmes and shit.
These programmes are constantly encouraging people to pick up the language.
The thing is why do we need to learn this language when there is no use for it in our society? Its not like you can rock into the dairy and ask for a fifty gram, papers, filters and a roll of tinfoil in maori (unless the dairy is owned by maori ofcourse) can you?

I am of foriegn ethnicity and I am constantly being criticised (ESPECIALLY by maori) for speaking my own language. At times i have almost been assaulted (once again by maori) for speaking to family and friends in my language too.

So why can maori speak their language in public and i cant?!

Im not racist, i just dont like ignorant hypocryts.

Forgive my bad english........if you dont like it FLAME ME!!!!!!!!!

    Seeeyyaaa!

I went to a puz quiz the other day

One of the questions I got wrong was “What are the 2 things most commonly found in cells?”

I thought the logical answer was Maori’s and their cousins

(Apologies if I just murdered your language, but I think I might have gotten it close, albiet without the use of fancy squiggles and suchlike. )

when I hear 'foreigners', speaking in their own tongue,I wonder if they are tourists or residents of New Zealand. If they are tourists its understandable, but if they are residents they can't complain about not being able to assimilate with Kiwis.(as they often do).

That's a pretty reasonable response to a fairly flamey post, kudos to you.

(FWIW - the user in question asked to have their account removed. That's why they show as Banned, rather than this thread being the reason.)

    Post Re: Maoriized

What's the bet that was from some young Asian IT "expert" on his first year at Unitech here?
They aren't much outside of their turbo-charged rice-burners.

Government has said in the past that they need to "integrate" with the NZ population.
Jesus, some of them can't even merge on the off ramp from a motorway.

As a 1/3 caste Maori here, who gives a shit, it's not like someone is forcing this numb-skull to watch Maori TV, I can speak maori, it's not an issue though.

    Jesus!!

I quite enjoy some of the programmes on the Maori channel, but because as we tax payers are footing the bill, we are entitled to be able to understand all programmes, so English sub titles should be included.

Hi Jich, yes subtitles would be easier, but on the other hand, there are words and expressions in Te Reo that are very hard to translate into English. And I feel that in order to understand the deeper meaning, one must think in Maori. To think in English then translate to Maori, one still will not have the grasp of Te Reo. Tis not till the thoughts are percieved in Te Reo that one has a window into really hearing and understanding how Maori approach life and how they communicate this. Crikey, I'm Maori, Irish, Welsh, Scottish, I've been trying to learn Te Reo for years via courses etc..... but do you think I can get my head around the language..... my mind is English..... the Te Reo penny never dropped in my head up stairs. But I'm not giving up. And may I say, I'm so very proud of my Irish whakapapa, I'm so glad I've got Irish roots, they are a very special people......to be sure.... to be shore
