Thumbs up I work from home!

    Hiya everyone,

Just my opinion, i have been working from home for a while now....its really good however, there are times when you come across people who are soooo nasty. They can be so arrogant at the thought of people sitting at home rather than getting a "real" job.

But what the heck is real now a days, if anything not all work at home opportunities are all bull@#%t. Its the choices in life that we make, so why is it that some tend to think that they have the right to judge anyone.

Anyways just thought id share that with everyone!

    Hi

    Nice post.

Two or three weeks ago, I posted a reply to the local Registrar/Assessor. I actually like the guy and when I reread m y post, I sent another saying that my first was a bit rough and to think of it at about half the ire.

His reply was that the nature of the internet and eMail left us without the human contact and that messages often sounded more harsh than they really were.

But then again some people are jerks.

    Peace and good wishes.

I envy you and wish I could figure out how to work at home. I work as a manager and am getting fed up with employees wanting to show up when they feel like it and wanting to get paid for doing as little work as possible. I can't seem to say or do anything right and whatever it is, it's all my fault. I think maybe I should be posting this under the 'who I would like to smack up side the head' thread but I wanted to say that working from home seems like the ideal way to go. No commute, no co-workers, or others, to get in your space, you can work at your own pace without someone telling you to speed up or slow down. Sorry bit of a rant but today was not a good day. Want to run away. Far, far, away.

    Hey IngStina

Howz it going, well unfortunately there really is no need to envy me because if anything it doesn't matter what we do, where we go, or the choices we make because at the end of the day.....you always deal with pricks who know better!

Hey the good thing is that your a manager, you get lead your team rather than follow and the best thing is that no matter what others say you have the last say! No need to run far far away.....stand your ground!

Working from home is over rated!

    1) When you want to turn the airconditioning up its not possible as the landlord is too cheap to have it installed!
2)When the phone rings you dont know what to say.."Hi darling" or "Hello J Smith Corp can I help you" or "Fark why are you annoying me during my pokerstars.net winning streak?"
3)When the OAP next door rings the doorbell, how can you tell him to "Fark off its my lunch break!"
4)When its 5pm, you get no rush as you are home already and the mince on toast does not appeal like it normally does.
5)When its 8am, you roll out of bed into work via the work toilet... YUCK!
6)When the wife gets home with the shopping there is never a new stapler in the bags no matter how many times you ask.
7)Having a beer is COMPANY POLICY! (ok thats one benefit!)
8)Stepping out for a coffee means walking 5.5 meters to the KITCHEN!
9)Stepping out for a fag could be dangerous with the Black Power next door!
10)Keeping the Office Clean is your JOB, dont ask the domestic for help or she will ruin the mince on toast!

    Great post ,

Yeah skepticism is high because most people cannot comprehend how simple it is to find the right opportunity and make a living working from home.

Going out into the big bad world is all we are taught in school, and from mum & dad, so the idea of someone staying at home and working is unheard of.

Fortunately, I too work from home part time and make some good money (will be turning up the wick soon) Hopefully in 6 months if all goes well, I can earn a full time wage working Smarter, NOT Harder.

    Peace!

    Hey

Nothing wrong with working from home at all. Infact it's more difficult unless you have an office or something. People that work from home and do it well are very very dedicated

@ZCC you make me laugh )))

I get far too distracted to work from home ...

However I did have a contract a couple of years back that was working from home. They hired the company I was contracting to for 4 staff, so they had two onsite in melbourne and one in the NZ office and me at home. The job turned out to be BLISS as they rescoped they project then rescoped and they had committed to too many poeple. So I got to sit on my bum and surf the net, watch telly, be in my house, all while being paid contract rates! I was just sorry I only wanted to work 3 days and did't opt the full time hours that I could have!

There are several replies possible from me.

First, sales or marketing. I just won't be worth a darn.

Second, give me a task and a point of contact to check with and I am ok. Recall the movie "Forest Gump" starring Tom Hanks? I am a bit like Forest. I need to check with someone about when to stop.

Third, my kind of work is telephone traffic analysis and for this, i need input. What is being sought. But often, I will need to lead the client in their identification of a problem. This creates an internal problem of "Is there a problem or am I building one for billing". The result is that I often do work and do not bill - a moral thing.

    peace

I might be tempted to bill for partial time rather than not bill at all.

I totally get your moral obligation not to bill. However I am gathering that people come to you for assistance, and even if you feel you have created the problem, there should be a partial charge for your investigation into whether or not there is an actual problem or not.

Its finding the balance between looking after yourself and looking after the client and keeping with your morals and values, at the end of the day you have spent the time investigating the issues for them, and even if it turns out they are doing the best they can and there is no problem, they have asked you to investigate.

    Not a problem.

I had one where I took a look at the traffic and what the customer wanted was to avoid paying for calls made. Each call was displayed twice. But the billing was correct. The telephone system was calling each number answered a second time. Often across the country.

When I found this, they delayed the payment for almost a year. What they wanted to do was blame the carrier.

    But your advice is solid.

I do GIS work. Pretty much the contracting I do is entry but not everyone can do it. And only once have I been able to do it remotely from home - when they would have rathered me in the office, but the office is in melbourne and well I am not.

I am back to work for a couple of months tomorrow! but just down the road.

I do love contracting. I can specify how many hours I want to do, when I want to do them and it makes life feel so much more in my own control.
