Expect severe delays on Auckland city roads over the weekend of 4 and 5 September.
From City Scene, published on 22 August 2010.
Residents are advised to expect severe delays on Auckland city roads over the weekend of 4 and 5 September.
The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) will be closing the southbound southern motorway over Newmarket for up to 36 hours from 5pm on Saturday, 4 September. The closure is necessary to enable the opening of the new southbound Newmarket Viaduct by no later than 5am on Monday, 6 September.
With up to 80,000 motorists being diverted onto local roads on Sunday alone, the NZTA is advising all Aucklanders to leave their cars at home and take public transport wherever possible. Severe delays are expected throughout central Auckland during this time.
Visit NZTA or facebook to find a list of detour maps for essential travel, including how to get from the city to the airport. Alternatively, phone 0508 CONNECT (266 6328).
