I rode my vespa down to mitre 10,ferrymead,ch-ch to get 6 wooden stakes and a length of chain and parked up beside the cement pallet in the drive thru, which I thought would be out of the way,but close enough that I wouldn't have to struggle to get my purchases loaded. One of the lads walked with me to where the timber is kept and when we were about 30 metres away,I just happened to glance back in time,to catch 2 of their other staff, who picked up my scooter from each end and moved it back by a good couple of metres, just so the forklift driver could get in there, but the thing is that he neither removed anything or placed anything and so there was no justifiable excuse for moving it in the first place. So I straight away complained about it and that forklift driver (a maori) looked at me like he wanted to take a poke at me.So I went round to the front entrance and asked to see the manager (tony) who told me that he was going to talk to the 3 people involved, but as he never asked me for my contact details,I sent an email to mitre 10's head office in Auckland, because I felt that I had to question just how tony was going to resolve this issue to my satisfaction.
Altho they didn't damage it,it's a wonder they didn't because the fella who lifted the front end lifted it by the front guard instead of by the wheel itself.
I had a conversation by phone with their customer support centre, because personally I considered that a face to face apology from those 3 workers would have been the least they could do under the circumstances, because let's face it folks, wouldn't you be a mite pissed off if you saw someone interferring with your vehicle?
I think that right thing to have done was either to have asked me (the owner) if I could move it out of the way,if it was in the way or simply to have waited those extra few minutes until I had loaded up and left the building.
So ok,I did all the right things,I complained to the perpetrators, then their boss, then his boss and I agreed to forestall talking about it on the internet to see what they were going to do.
Well I went down there this morning for a bag of quick-crete and tony came over shortly after I arrived to tell me that he'd spoken to the fellas involved and he apologised for them, which I'm afraid isn't the same as them apologising and he seemed to think that that was sufficient.
They think that because their ferrymead building is locally owned along with the franchise, that that gives them the right to run things their way,but the fact is that they trade under the mitre 10 brand name and how they choose to operate is a direct reflection on how the whole of mitre 10 operate as a business.
Having had a few days to think back on it,I can now see where I went wrong and that is firstly that I hadn't had a shave for a few days, secondly that I was wearing poor man's clothes, the traditional black jersey which not only had splotches of paint on the front of it,but also has a hole in the right elbow and that spiked their jealousy, that a low life looking fella like myself, had a ride that is only 4 years from new and flasher than what they have and how they'd made their judgement and expected to treat me accordingly.
I've had the same crappy service from their invercargill store and for exactly the same reason. The thing here is that these people seem to think that having a job entitles them to exercise their own prejudice against you,so if they don't like how you look, what you wear, the earring in your ear,the tattoos you have, the clothes you wear, your attitude, the look in your eye, something they've heard about you,or the people you mix with, that this justifies their treating you like crap. What a bloody cheek!
I sent mitre 10 another email directing them to go to the consumer affairs Home page, right click For Business>Dealing with consumers>Customer service and complaints which is a virtual reiteration of what I'd earlier told them and could have been written just for me.
