Topic: Visiting South Island

The family's planning to go to south island this summer for 7 days on--as usual--a tight budget. We're thinking of driving around with a Christchurch > Dunedin > Te Anau/Milford Sound > Queenstown > ?Franz Josef > ?Greymouth > Christchurch general route in mind, a la Amazing Race. Is it even feasible? Do you guys know of a particular must-see attraction down south that we simply shouldn't miss? Any suggestions on cheap but good accommodations? All sorts of comments/advise are most welcome. Thanks in advance.

Ski areas and resorts, thats what you mean?

Mostly tourist spots, I suppose. Places where we can truly experience the beauty of south island. (And take really good pictures!)

Given that my first visit to the South Island in my 31-ish years on this planet was last month, I don't really have the local knowledge to make a call on where to go..but, it does seem like you have covered most of the places that people would normally go to do the scenic thing.

I'd suggest asking at the very first place you go to, they should have the expertise to point you in the direction of any little-known local beauty spots.
