Hmm, decent jobs, what sort of work are you looking to do?
You could check out sites like www.seek.co.nz, www.jobstuff.co.nz

It will give you an idea of what is on offer.
Anything on the west coast will be good surfing, some more dangerous and inaccesable than others.

If you like a city scene, then you could choose somewhere like Raglan (http://www.raglan.net.nz/) you might pay lots for accomodation though at that time of year, but it's a short drive to Auckland or Hamilton, which could prvide more exciting night life.

Check out the employment sites and base your starting point on that.
At least you have some months to work on it.

I think this might be for me.

I love the US. The Clinton US. Not the GW Bush US.

Torture, invasion for regime change, squandering the treasury, we are now the greatest debtor nation in history and Communist China holds most of the paper. Environment.

It goes on and on. The list is almost endless.

There are lots of recipes for Menudo on the internet.

Theory similar to Ramen noodles. "It is not the noodles but what you add that makes the soup".

Got to deliver kids to school. Later.

Funny enough, the UK has pine trees, and many great forests, you just have to travel to places with no employment to enjoy them full time.

Our traffic is certainly a problem, and just as frustrating as your I am sure

Our crime is laughable compared to some other coutries.
However, we are only a young country and have not yet had the time to get to the part of the slippery slope that the UK is suffering.
And there is probably nothing that can be done.
You can't control nature for long, let alone Human nature.

The main thing is that you enjoy life, as if everyday was your last, unless of course you know when your biggest muscle will decide to stop

I hope you do manage to travel and find your ideal little part of the world.

I second that one because it's the damn truth which is pitiful. What a waste.

    Smile Re: I wish!

I have the same wish as you. After seeing LOTR, I absolutely fell in love with NZ. The Chronicles of Narnia movie was also filmed there. The quality of life seems to be a lot better there. I am tired of being afraid to walk out my door at night, and having "lock-downs" my sons' school because of "crazies" running around the neighborhood with loaded guns, and I live in one of the better areas of our city. I would move there in a heart beat.

For my wife, it was "Green Dolphin Street"

This discontent that I am expressing and I think the others as well, it that our system is busted, the inmates are running the crazy house, and we just do not have the power to bring it back.

We have Feinstein and Boxer as Senators, both Democrat, but Feinstein is more Republican than most of dubya's party.

We have democrats but they are often so silent that we take it as complicity.

The whole system is a big joke, though it really isn't that funny. I feel like many people look at Americans as ignorant; this of course is a broad generalization because there are plenty of us that do understand what is going on (we're not all "W" zombies); and some of those that do truly understand, do not have the resources to leave this country or the resources to fight. It's a lot more than just politics here...

Following WWII, the objective was to gain an educated work force and build a strong middle class.

9/11 allowed GW to invade Afganistan. If it is true that al-Queda did in fact invade the US then I can go along with that.

But Iraq and now the eavesdropping (that is a convienent word - considering that you or I can be taken away with no notice to anyone) and all the things between is killing / has killed the middleclass.

Never mind leave the country, I'm stuck in my city. I live in my grandparents home in what used to be a great neighborhood. Now our city is bringing in so many low income people (I mean literally advertizing in Philly) and allowing out-of town landlord's to buy homes and rent them out cheap, it is bringing our propety values way down. My home when I got it was worth $100,000, now I'll be lucky to get $60,000 (that's with 4 stories of living space, stain-glass windows, all mahogany woodwork and a 3 car heated garage). If I want to buy a new home in a development or out in the country, you're looking at $250,000+. My home wouldn't get me a down payment on one of those. It seems to me that you have to be either super wealthy or really know how to work the system to get anywhere here. And that is sad. I don't want my children growing up to that.
