Default Jersey Bennes Potato - New Zealand's Little Secret

I only heard of these little delights recently, as Sparkle had enjoyed some with a meal she had at a restaurant, but didn't know what they were.

As it turns out, they are a type of potato. Jersey Bennes potatoes are grown in Otago, New Zealand, and are known as the local equivalent to Bluff Oysters.

Coming in a box, these 'new potatoes' taste strongly potatoey, like potatoes should taste.

Delicious simply boiled with a bit of mint and some butter, go out and try some today.

    They sure are.

Boil till just softened, give a bit of a shake in a sieve to break the outside up a bit, coat in oil and roast in a hot pan (220 degrees C) for 20 mins, turning every now and then.

    Yeah,
I planted some of these spuds in my garden last year.
I must say they'd have to be the best potatoes I've grown to date.
They're great boiled with ham and salad.

You can't beat homegrown veges. I must look for those spuds.

    Jich,
People could save so much money by planting their own garden.
The missus and I have planted a garden for the last 10 years, spuds, corn, peas, brussels sprouts, lettuce, you name it, it saves money.
At the end of the day who really wants to prop up Foodtown or Woolies?

I agree, if people haven't got much space they can be grown in pots/containers. As you say why prop up the supermarkets, they sure make a killing out of the growers. and thats a fact.
I was watching a couple the other day tending their vege garden, so much like old times.
