Default NZB - good stuff - tho a bit 'fussy'?

    *BOO*....

As a newy here with an old puter ~ hard to tell if it's just this pc OR being new, but it seems as great as nzb is, it's not as 'user-friendly' as *ahem nzd*.

What made me stay 'there' - was the way the threads were easy to follow - even before going gold. Being gold is great as you have the 'favourites' and the colour combination is 'just right' .

I realise you can't 'copy' them but wonder about 'improvements'.

Have found that only being able to see about 2 posts per 'screen'... hmmm

anyway those are my thoughts... it's quite a big site so am still trying to navigate around everywhere...

Glad you are here tho. Otherwise where'd all the controversial folk live?

Thanks for taking the time to give us this feedback.

Firstly, one thing you could try is going to the very bottom left of the page and choosing a different Styleset. The two options are Professional and vBulletin default. Each has several variations on a theme.

What do you mean by "Have found that only being able to see about 2 posts per 'screen'"?

    Greenfairy,

I think the thing with this site is that you get so many options, you just need to fiddle with them and find out the best for you. Have a good look through your User Control Panel there are some display options you can try there. Also have a look at the top of a thread and change the display mode, try one of the others.

I personally like these sites much better, theres a couple others that use similar software that I use. As a spectator (and odd poster) at NZD I never liked the NZD message boards. BUT that just goes to show, that people don't like change and have trouble adapting to something a bit different.

Oh, and the FAQ has the 'How to Drive NZB' section as well...that can be handy.

For quick reference of 'Things to do to make posts more interesting', the 'Posting Rules' box in the bottom left of every thread page has links to vB codes (short codes to wrap around text to change it), the smilies that are availaible, and how to use IMG code (which is just one of the vB codes, but allows you to link to external images).

Default Thank you Penny & Kall

Am a fairly 'basic' puter user so your info to guide me is definitely welcome.
And as I said - this puter is really old and it is 'slow' so re the 'seeing a coupla' posts on the screen - is cos the avatars and everything make 'each' post quite large...
Suppose it won't be long before I'm 'all expert' on nzb...

Maybe you can tell me; can I upload my g'fairy pic from photos on our computer?
How many posts/threads a non-paid member can do in a day?... and where's the coffee?

Coolies - got the retro look now... you see there's so many places to go hunting - but unless one knows the lingo etc...one wouldn't 'know' which bits are changeable.

This is why people find 'trouble' adapting - tis a timing thing... like walking in the dark.

I don't mind change - wouldn't be in the South Island if I was comletely woosy to the comfort zones... that's nzd for ya... from the Far North to Canty.

I referred someone who joined up - but did it 'privately'

I was going to suggest that you could try in your options changing your "post display stly" to Classic, which would put the avatar's etc on the side... *except* when I tried it didn't work... so this is where we scream Kalls name... in that whiney Kaaaaaaaalllllllllll or else he'll read this and know hehee!

Default BTW - when I said "Boo" - it was meant

like.. "Boo/Hello" not booo hiss... just thought sheesh nobody can 'hear me' hehehe.... so best to clarify.

I think it would be nice to be able to 'pick' a colour for txt...and it be a constant? Is that possible?

I guess I like the fact that we not as restricted here as a lot of other forums ... I like posting in colour and using different fonts.

Oh, and I like having a lot of different smileys to choose from

Default Gosh - I'm not BAGGING NZB.. just trying to navigate

    Code:
my way around... I love being able to write in colour and have these choices...tho on a practical level it slows me down a bit...but again - it's about getting used to a new site.
    Less restrictive indeed...

'we' think nzd is up for sale....hence the 'big cleansing'? just a 'thought'

Wow ... what happened to that post?

Does anyone else see the post above being way longer than the one above that?

I wouldn't want to be an admin or have anything to do with a site like nzd -- could you imagine the freaks you would have to deal with.

It's bad enough dealing with the small amount of freaks we have here *blows kiss to members*

This thread in Helpdesk (it's stickied) shows what each 'Standard' (non-paid) Usergroup can do, and the number of posts (and later, minimum Karma) required to reach each level.

Once you reach the 'Member' group, you have the ability to upload a Profile Picture. This goes on your profile, and is seperate from an Avatar, which shows up in each post.

Avatars are chosen in your UserCP, and I see you worked that out already.

Custom Avatar uploads are limited to Paid Members, and all the other benefits are in this thread (also in Helpdesk.)

So which paid part allows... all of the options? I don't *yet* understand arcade 'games'? etc... so not sure I want that.

I used 'code' before but have no idea what it does or why it is...etc... as I say I'm not a 'expert' with the finer details of computing - more a copy typist - as long as it's simple.

argh ummm errrr..... KALLLLLLLLLLLLLL! *whiney voice*

Ummm There are some limits to your membership which is what that thread that kall posted a link to explains. These are linked to the number of posts you make. So at the moment you can see you are a junior member, as you post more and more your membership goes up in that respect.

THEN there are paid membership options that are explained (I believe) if you go to your user control panel and click on "Paid subscriptions" that lists all the paid options and what you get for it. And The Paid options give you things that you wouldn't ever be able to get from just increasing your membership through posting (Like automatically posting in colour etc)

As for the arcade...go and have a go it is fun as, I just wish I had more time to play in it. Its full of games.

Code is evil. No, it is what geeks use to display code without it formatting...umm, like so:

    Code:
    This is a smiley: :)
Instead of: "This is a smiley: "

The Paid memberships all allow all of the same options. Platinum just gives you a bit more of each, and a real @nzboards.com or @nzboards.co.nz or @nzbfans.info email address. Sponsor gives you a Forum Link on the forum page, like Saints Haven and Sparkle Hosting have.

I'm in the middle of updating the Usergroups, so that thread I linked to earlier will have the most up-to-date info.
