Am sitting at my desk eating an apple and typing this ... I'm a girl so can multi task you see. Our receptionist is away so I'm doing her crap work.

It's freezing in our office so everyone is complaining to me.

Erm. External email is taking approx 5 hours to get to us at the moment. Very slack.

Woop! Paid my Loan!!

So I got a letter from the IRD today.

Unusually, it was not them asking for money!

It all began 2 weeks ago.... *swirly effect*

I was sitting at my desk at work thinking 'Man! I have been paying off that Student Loan for ages!', so I called IRD to ask.

After about 10 minutes of trying to navigate InfoExpress (never use this. It is far from express.), I managed to get a human being, who, after asking me various questions about my Study History, advised my loan was paid, and that I was entitled to a refund.

This would be paid to my bank account within a week or so. Yay!

Now, I get the letter showing the balance.. it was substantial.

At the bottom of the page was a statement: 'IMPORTANT - An interest rate of 6.90% will apply to Student Loan balances.'

After calling the IRD to enquire why my interest was only $0.01CR, I was advised that this only applied to DEBIT loan balances.

Hmm.. doesn't say that anywhere... and why was it that I had to chase them to find out if I had paid my loan off and when to stop deductions?

You haven't heard the last of this. ;)

I think it was Voltaren..

I have a very sore neck, probably related to the 2 hours I spent in a dental chair yesterday.

First dentist said I needed urgent work done. His receptionist took my $72 for X-rays and told me my urgent work could be done in 2 weeks.

I walked out with the xrays and found another dentist, one who could do the work then and there.

Hurrah!

Now, pain is blissfully receeding.

I've been single for over six months now and that was from a relationship that only lasted a couple of weeks. I seem to have long breaks in between girlfriends. I have a confidence issue where I find it hard to ask girls out. I'm not sure why.

I sometimes wish that I could just find the person i'm ment to be with. I see all my friends with thier girlfriends and when they talk about them it's kinda depressing. I sometimes think that if i'm to die alone i'd rather die now. I've been thinking of moving to the US where I can get a fresh start and get to know people who don't know me or have heard of me.

He was in traction since Saturday.

I just spoke to my Mom and she's informed me that my Dad will be operated on, tonight.

The specialist he saw gave him two choices, an operation or a wheelchair......

I've always heard if you have an op on your back you are buggered for life........

* Make it so the Users would not see the Even if they went to the Day

I have accomplished the first three.

Feature after feature has been popping in. It hasn't been without it's agonisingly late nights, so I won't pretend it was easy. But it'd definitely be accurate to describe it as fantastic.

The demo runs much better as an EXE, so I'll place a download on the site and a link to it from here later.

This development journal is really boring. Unless I can go "WOW NOW WE HAVE DRAGONS!!!!~~!!11!!one!@!~eleven!@!" every second entry or so, I don't see why I'd be keeping it.

Then I remembered I'm doing my best to develop self-centered psychopathic personal traits (the work-boots of corporate personality desirables) so not only do I synthetically not give a shit but I would carefully fake being confused if you weren't all checking my journal for up-to-the-minute updates.

Regardless, you insignificant worms probably want to bathe in my goodness again for a few moments. I can feed your hunger by letting you know that the fantastic thing you've come to know as my little project has been rewritten, although it doesn't quite spin the terrain again yet. I've been a little busy, but true to selected form I've told people I'll help them with things then worked on this instead. Other peoples lives are going to hell in a handbasket and I'm probably making a small profit; if not in a monetary sense then definitely in oneupsmanship. Not that there's any real competition mind you, but I've elected to be a competitive man and I like to see how far above you all I can simulate placing myself.

Taversn spawning drunks that contina all the code for their own behaviour and 3d objects drawing themselves means development is a lot more structured.
Tree gets some friends

My problems are twofold:

Entire forest of trees are spawning, rotating and depth-sorting. But they're not moving. I tried a whole host of hacks and fixes but it's not quite the same as redesigning it again from the ground up.

Now that I've worked out objects and classes again, bringing the original shitty terrain hack into line will be nice and tidy. Rotation will break as well doing that, but the whole thing needs a good cleanup.

After the above is done I'm going to get it tiling mapsets (so I can reduce the size of the current terrain into manageable bits) and have it load them from the server as needed. Then it'll need a map format of some sort.

I think I'll keep most trees as randomly generated, but also allow for specific placement. This will save me time because I can just give it forest center, size and density.

After that we'll look at bounding maps and stuff. Trees shouldn't appear in rivers and players shouldn't be able to walk through crevasses. The easiest way will probably be to supply a 2-bit image for passable/unpassable and transform offscreen it with the terrain, then just get the pixel colour to test its state.

We can also do simple 3d models at some point. It'd be cute to do flat-shaded polygonal modelling. Polygons would be more flexible than scaled/rotated/skewed textures, but there are drawbacks to both.

Textures can have transparency, which will look great and help add a lot of detail to things.

Polygons are fast and can be a lot more complex.

Either way when all is said and done each object draws itself so there's no reason there can't be a mix of styles in the world, just not a mix per object.

This brings me to particle systems. Although 'thinking particles' are new to consumer-level modellers, they're pretty basic in programming. While you wouldn't want every tree spewing autumn leaves, having a tavern spawn drunks or a forest spawn birds isn't unreasonable.
