Default Why suicide?

Why is suicide happening? What's causing it? What can we do to stop it?
Suicide is happening all around us yet no-one can answer why?
Not only is it the young, so is the adults,
Is it society that makes these people do it, or is trauma, is life getting so
hard they can't handle it, lack of money, no confidence or do they just
give up.
The thing about all this is the family that is left behind having to cope with the
gossip, wondering if they could have done more, always looking for answer therefore breaking the family unit bit by bit, I just dont understand, just the last few weeks i have had a few friends/family take this option.

My first guess would be that it is a lack of support for these people that leads them to feel the only resort is to end their lives.

In Kaitaia, around the mid to late 90s, we had what could be described as a spate of suicides. Maybe not a total spate, but upwards on 10 people, mainly youths from the college, tried to, or sucessfully commited suicide.

Not being a trained psychologist, I can only make the assumption that it was due to the fact they had nowhere to turn.

I don't know, I found someone dead after they'd killed themselves.

That's pretty freaky Diane.

I had a friend admit to me that she had tried to commit suicide. She tried to slit her wrists and showed me the scars. She's glad it didn't work though. I asked her why and she said she didn't really know ... she just felt that she didn't think things would ever get better for her.

I bumped into her a few years back and she looks happy and healthy so I'm glad that things worked out for her.

Freaky? it was the worst thing I've ever seen.
It's sad when people try and hurt themselves.. to feel that low that you want to die..

feeling total and utter desperation and hopelessness is the main reason for people to commit suicide. what causes these most terrible and believe me, crippling feelings can come from so many things, and sometimes issues that shared, could be resolved so quickly.

there is only one catch.......................the person has to ask to help, it cant be given or forced upon. the first step has to come from the person in need. sad thing is that most times not even family can really help, they are too close...........
