Default Telecom Forced to Unbundle Local Loop

The NZ Government is to crack Telecom's current monopoly on its lines to give others the opportunity to provide better internet and phone services.

Effectively, this means that other Providers, such as Telstra, will be able to set their own speed limits and prices, and not be forced to purchase Broadband and phone services at Telecom's Wholesale rates.

A recent poll on NZB showed that people who visit this forum were overwhelmingly in favour of Unbundling the Local Loop, so this is good news for most of you.

Not for me. I use telecom's Broadband. It now means connections are gowing to get slower because of the other companies and more people using the line. It sucks for the other companies if Telecom hold on to the lines but for those who use it, it's a hassel. THey should just join Telecom

Yeah and pay through the nose for it... no thanks.

I'm more than happy with our service privider AND the service they provide.

We had no phone for 3 days and the response from Telecom? 'SO?'
Grgrrrrr grumble mumble grrr

Took them 3 more days to fix it... no internet... no nothing... then we found out someone had disconnected us on purpose. Wankers.

Default Re: Telecom Forced to Unbundle Local Loop

When we moved I phoned Telecom to tell them of our move. We got the phone sorted okay then moved on to the Broadband. I told her that Kall had said our new place had broadband (he noticed the modem when we took our first look at the place) and the Telecom woman said that "no" our house didn't have broadband and it would cost $150 to set up and they couldn't do it until the following week coz they were really busy.

I got so annoyed with her that I told her Kall would phone her and talk to her about the Broadband.

Kall phoned back and since he works with Telecom (sort of) she then admitted to him that "yes" this house did have broadband and it was on and running the day we moved.

What sucks is that if Kall hadn't phoned Telecom were quite happy to lie to me and take my money AND provide crappy service by not having the broadband on until the following week (coz she said we'd have to get a technician in).

This unbundling is a godsend. Now people who have had to stick with Telecom will be able to go to their competition and receive competitive rates and services.

Absolutely brilliant.

Sucks to you Telecom.

I've still got 6 months with Telecom for broadband before I can think of going to another provider, am not willing to pay $100 early disconnection fee.

About time Telecom had some competitors. After all we are living in a growing nation .. not in the middle of the iraq desert. Yay for unbundling !!
