I'm appalled that the Government could consider moving the Ports of Auckland operations away from Mechanics Bay and putting the stadium there. If POA has to move I'd like to see the land put to a more communal use. I haven't seen any plans to make the surrounds open to the public for general use. What a shame.

Personally I think Eden Park is in the wrong place so a move isn't a bad thing. But what about Penrose or Onehunga? They're close to the Motorway, airport and rail networks. Despite being industrial the area is still picturesque.

Any other locations that might work?

I don't believe they'll let it go outside "Auckland City" - parochialism rules. Same reason why Te Atatu would never get off the ground.

There's a new website called Tell Trevor which is an online survey of opinions. The site is owned by Nicholas Macdonald and Mary Vance who run a research company. I'm not sure if they have a mandate or if anyone is listening to their results but it's worth being heard.

I think the best option for them is Jade Stadium...it already has its permits and consents etc for expansion anyway, and it would be about 1/10th of the price of a new stadium...

380 million bucks is a lot cheaper than 1.8 BILLION dollars!!
