Default smokers in bars

Seems to me to be utter bullocks. Most people who go to the pub smoke , most people who dont smoke and want to go to the pub dont care about smokers. For a small percentage that are worried about smokers why dont they go out side in the garden bar.I dont smoke but know If I go out to a bar other people will be ,but Just dont care.Whats next drinks containing alcohol will be banned from bars because it upsets nondrinkers who like to go out for a orange juice at the local watering hole.

Stop talking shit. The 70% of kiwis who don't smoke would take it up if they wanted to breathe it.

Thank god stupid people are a dying species. Mostly from narcotics and vehicles.

I don't smoke, and yes I go out sometimes, but if a bar is too smoky i leave. I don't like it and i am glad the new law is coming in. I will enjoy my outings more now. i will be interested in how one people react and one place in particular I go to reacts after the law comes in.

I think the fact they have done it in other places, and they haven't curled up and died is a good sign. As I say I spose we just have to sit back and see what happens.

I'm a smoker and I'll probably stop going to bars that don't have outside areas in which to smoke. I think there are going to be some problems. I think some smokers might get aggressive when asked to put their ciggie out (when they light up in a bar forgetting the rules) and they're full of booze.

I certainly wouldn't want to be a publican/restaurant/bar owner when the big change happens.

Yeah, We get all the inforamtion through work as we are a licensed premises 9the social club bar) and you have to have a smokefree policy in place that tells your staff how to deal with someone who is smoking inside, and you have to take all resonable steps to ask them to put it out/leave etc, and I forget teh wording, but pretty much someone being aggressive isn't an alright reason not to ask them to put it out.

Keep a fire extinguisher mounted on the wall behind the bar.

Foam, not water.

Make sure it is in a place where everyone can see it but the public can't reach it.

Hang a "Ciggie Extinguisher" sign on it.

If a punter lights up give them a blast in the mush.

They'll soon get the message.

I'm not really at all bothered by it. I am a smoker, but prefer smoking outside anyway. And the fact that I rarely go to the pub.

In a totally different light I think I think it's a good law because how many times have you had clothes burnt or been singed on the bum by some drunken idiot on the dancefloor smoking. It's bad enough dancing when it's packed, because you can't move, but when people smoke, there is always a chance of being burnt by one.

It's just when it's raining that it's going to be a problem if places don't have anywhere that's sheltered for their smokers to go. I'd say a few publicans will be creating covered outdoor areas for their smoking patrons.

Next you'll be wanting publicans to create covered outdoor areas for their farting patrons.
