Where there is smoke there is usually fire… sometimes you can't see the flames but if you smell the smoke often enough you can be sure there is a fire there somewhere.
Unfortunately it looks like the mother was more of a gold digger than a credible witness and MJ gets to walk free as they jury couldn't be sure beyond reasonable doubt.

Meanwhile the question has to be asked why a parent would allow their child to sleep over unsupervised in the house of a possible paedophile?

Maybe some of the parents were hoping something may happen just so they could take Michael to get court and sue him for pots of money. People can be quite twisted sometimes.
