Government's concealment of child abuse Like everyone I cringed at the story of Nia Glassie's fatal abuse. Predictably not only the current Commisioner for Children Dr Cindy Kairo, but also the former Children';s Commissioner Roger McLay stepped in and called for society to stop looking the other way and act on notifications.
Pardon me?
Both Roger McLay in 2002 and Dr Kairo in 2007 refused to act on my complaints that my 17 month old son received a black eye from his mother in 2001 and a series of other assaults in the following year. I complained to McLay that CYFS and Police would not investigate. Roger McLay wrote to me saying he refused to investigate. A notification to her office was acknowledged and then ignored.
CYFS wrote a report in 2003 confirming a Police view that there was no evidence to substantiate my claims. CYFS went further and wrote report in 2003 suggesting I was vexatious.
In 2007 I obtained my CYFS file and discovered that Police and CYFS on two occasions in 2002 obtained admissions from the mother.
What CYFS Police Government and Commissioners for Children in this country are covering up is a double standard that CYFS social workers look the other way when mothers assault children.
That is why children are dying. Look at the murder of Coral Burrows where CYFS ignored notifications that she was being abused. CYFS knew of concerns about Nia Glassie being abused before her murder but ignored them. |
