Default Dangerous Lead Levels in Petone Exide Plant

Did anyone see this on the news?

Seems that the Exide plant in Petone, Wellington, is giving the local residents a bit of a dusting.

A test carried out on the building next door revealed the lead levels were 28 times the reccomended levels, as per the World Health Organisation.

The local residents received a letter last month telling them that the levels posed a risk to people, especially children.

Default re: Dangerous Lead Levels in Petone Exide Plant

Who was there first, the battery plant or the housing?

The reason I ask is the number of councils that rezone land for residential use while an established industry is continuing it's established processes (including any toxic bi-products and/or noise) and then the people complain.

However, if the battery plant has increased production or changed it's procedures so it is 'worse' than it was previously then it is just wrong and I would be supporting the residents.
