Default Why don't we all goddamn push for this in NZ?

8Mbit, 500GB Monthly, free wireless router/access/something/buzzword

Cmon New Zealand, we used to be at the forefront. Now we're like the rest of the western world - we fucking suck at everything except for the fine art of pretending we're the best.

I'm guessing (with a little bit of background of the issues we have here at Wired Country) that it is expensive to implement infrastructure that is required for it, without the guarantee of uptake of the service.

As for Service uptake unless you are a computer geek, most poeple don't understand modem speeds that have been round for ages, and so they don't get its fast and good. then they don't really know the difference. It comes down to "You can't miss what you don't know"

so apart from the computer geeks of this world most people don't realise the benefits to them, and are unlikely to pay extra for the service. What you need to do is to take Dial Up away, or make it just as expensive (just say its "aging technology" and expensive to keep running and then people will hook up to the faster internet services and then the companies will get the money they need to increase their services in the country.

I'm clever aye... someone should give me a degree in cleverness or something!

I remember one day..OH HAPPY DAY..paradise's speed cap broke. OH GLORIOUS DAY!

It was 'the internet the way it was meant to be'... I was getting something crazy like 500Mb a second downstream.

Now, apparently Whoosh is meant to be 'fast' .. but I can't seem to find out much on www.whoosh.co.nz ... here's what I get if I click Customer Support:

Very helpful. Ahh. "Up to 6 times the speed of standard dial-up" is what they offer - $39.95 for a gig a month, $54.95 for 10 gig a month.

Telescum's attitude towards rural net users sucks ass. Because they are bound by Kiwi Share, they have to provide free local calls to all NZers, but the farmers can go fuck themselves as far as it comes to 'The guy down the road has an electric fence that is causing interference with my internet. I cannot stay connected for more than 10 minutes on rainy days'.
