| With the newly developed "review" forum, I decided that it would be a great idea to "review" medications for cold and flu symptoms. I have a head cold which has developed into a bronchial cough and wheeze resembling asthma. Alas being eager to give myself relief from he symptoms the only conclusion I can currently give you is that mixing your medications is not advisable. Around 6pm I took a coldrex tablet , designed to dry the nose and provide relief for the tissue raw nose. The coldrex kicked in rather well and although a slight nasal trickle remained it very much lived up to its promises and was a huge improvement on the 30 second blow routine I had been getting used to. ( 100 Tissues in less than 2 days!) But like all things it doesn't come without side effects. It had done a truly admirable job of drying my nose but had dried everything else out as well and so my cough intensified. In a frantic bid to seek relief from this I took some ventolin cough mixture which did mostly relieve the cough. Two for two for products that work!! But of course by now my head is aching from all the coughing so I also take a couple of Panadol.... so far so good. An hour later I'm feeling like a bus has run me over, I'm hot and flushed, my nose is beginning to stream again, the tissues are re-enlisted to my now raw nose and yes the cough is back ARRGGGGHHHHHHhhhh OK time to try some Lemsip ahhhhhhhhhh...The hot drink soothes my throat and nose but by this time I'm a little drugged up and end up spending the rest of the night unable to sleep listening to the bizarre sounds in my head with an eeeiiieee here, and a eeeiiioooo there, and an occasional zzzzzzzzziiiiiiiiiii zzzzzzziiiiiiii. All these amazing sounds match the amazing light show that flickers behind my eyelids every time I try to close my eyes. But the worst of it is yet to come.... I begin to shake uncontrollably like a naked person sitting in the snow. One really bad trip man! By around 5am the shaking and headshow have settled down but of course the snotty nose and cough are back. Out of sheer exhaustion I get a cup of HOT water with NO additives , blow my nose and let sleep finally take me. My advice - Forget the meds. Accept the fact that if you've got a cold you are going to look and feel like shit for a few days but do yourself a favour and avoid to many concoctions..... My other advice... You want a really bad trip? Take a dose of coldrex, stir in a little ventolin, sprinkle in some lemsip, take two panadol sit back and wait for the light fantastic and dont call me in the morning ![]() | ||||

| I hear ya chick. Don't mix Coldrex with anything. Especially not alcohol. When I was really sick, I took the Night tablets (worked wonders) but was a bit wary of the Day tablets because they made me really drowsy (apparently I'm one of those few people who get drowsy after taking the Daytime tablets). Lucky me. | ||||

| Sounds like me on Wednesday. I first had a tap installed in my nose which was immediately left in the on position and the sandpaper attached to the inside of my throat. Then came the headache and that was before sitting in traffic for an hour and a half to get home. Then the shivers started about the same time the gas heater ran out of gas. So rather than waiting for the next morning to go to the family doctor I went to the after hour$ one. I am thinking this is the worst flu I have ever had, and as I am sitting waiting I start to read the pamphlet on Meningitis Symptoms... not a good idea for piece of mind. Vomiting - nope Fever - yep Headache - yep Stiff neck - yep Light aversion - yep Drowsiness - yep Joint pain - a little bit Fitting - nope So off to the counter to tell them I have a few of the symptoms... and guess who is called next... me. The doc does his things and he confirms that it is just a really bad bronchial infection... at that point I am sure my heart rate returns to something near normal and I get a list of drugs to get from the pharmacy. What a fun evening that was. It is Friday afternoon at the moment and although I am feeling a little bit better I am still sitting at home twiddling my thumbs and wishing that my body would return to it's normal (or abnormal) state as soon as possible. | ||||

| I just tend to stay away from them all, and rest and relax, i know its horrible but I fdind sometimes the "side effects" of these drugs worse than just perserving with the symtoms. However I have been know to have the odd Coldral, thats all that really works for me. | ||||

| I have had 3-4 weeks of sick kids and sick hubby. The latest is my 11 yr old he is home with chest infection, asthma and swollen glands. Last week it was my hubby. 2 days of him home and I was keen to go to work to get a rest. The week before my 13 month old, it is so awful lookin after sick bubbas, they cant tell you whats wrong and all she wanted for 2 days was cuddles. My hubby rung me yesterday and told me their accountant had the flu last week and rung in on Friday to say the Dr wants her to go and have chest xrays as they suspected the flu had turned in to phuemonia. They admitted her Friday and she passed away on Saturday, she was only 47. Ive been luck I have only had a sore throat so far, but then I keep telling myself " I cant get sick, I cant get sick " only cause if I do get sick I have to look after myself and the kids. | ||||
