| Just found out that one of my relatives died this morning from an asthma attack she had in the weekend. They put her in an induced coma which she never recovered from. She was only 21 years old. *shakes head* | ||||

| awwwww thats no good. Sorry Sparkley Gal! *big hugs* Should they not have put her in the coma? They wouldn't have don ethat if they didn't have to. | ||||

| I'm not sure of the details Penny. Apparently they had to put her in a coma (not sure why), they did say that if she did pull through there could be some brain damage and the family were all hoping that she'd pull through without brain damage but I don't think the family were fully prepared for her not pulling through at all. ![]() | ||||

| oh thats horrible. I suppose if I was in that situation all you can do is hope for the best. And in this case it didn't turn out. I hoper the family all pull through it OK. Its hard to deal with when they are so young.I remember when my friend died when we were at high school, I went to her funeral, and her mother was distraught and couldn't ever walk out of the church she was basically carried. That image of her following her daughter out of the church has stuck with me forever, I think it was the first time I had ever seen someone grieving like that. | ||||

| It's pretty awful. My Mum knows her mother very well (they're cousins) so she's taking it pretty hard. I guess the hardest thing to understand is that asthma caused the death ... ASTHMA! It's all quite freaky really. | ||||

| Well I suppose Asthma can just be a cover for an underlying problem. My grandfather has asthma, but thats just the start of his problems with his lungs. Hes come close to sying a couple of times with it. Given us all a bit of a fright. | ||||

| Apparently they had to put her in a coma (not sure why), To help her breathe, most likely. The larynx etc swell up considerably when someone has an asthma attack. Using barbituates to induce the coma helps reduce the swelling and control respiration. they did say that if she did pull through there could be some brain damage and the family were all hoping that she'd pull through without brain damage but I don't think the family were fully prepared for her not pulling through at all. Very sad indeed. My condolences. | |||

| Huge hugs Sparkle, my heart goes out for you. Unfortunately it isn't uncommon I went to visit my nana today (4 years since she died aged 92). She shares a grave with my cousin who died of an asthma attack at age 17 (about 30 years ago). My cousin had come home to a hot house (it was in November) and the temperature change and stuffiness must have been too much for her. She was found next to the phone and it was off the hook. | ||||
