Default Turtles

Here in the US we have turtles.

My son has moved to Missouri, and joined a girlfriend from high school/

Recent floods have put the Turtles on the move and I got the following from his bunk mate.

The current turtle population at the house fluctuates daily. I am considering hanging a sign that reads:

Society for the Preservation and Rescue of Roadweary Turtles (SPRRT) Belton Chapter

We are currently at Pop: 2. Mother Abigail, who cannot escape our yard, being too LARGE to fit underneath the fence and Koopa, rescued yesterday. Koopa (apparently named after a world in Super Mario
Brothers) is a hatchling common snapping turtle. Very cute at only 3 inches in length. Koopa is in a temporary habitat...called Tupperware...and has not yet eaten the small goldfish we put in the habitat.

Dave is very concerned for Koopa. He found him on the road (as usual) not moving and looking rather...dead. But Koopa has recovered well and hopefully we can tempt him (he/she?) into eating soon. Koopa will need to be in a fish tank or terrarium until he is bigger. The online turtle source (a.k.a. Turtle Bible) warns against putting a small hatchling in with a much larger turtle. Lunch, anyone?

Koopa spent the night in his Tupperware habitat sitting on the shelf above our bed. It was kind of like having a new puppy! I talked Dave out of putting Koopa in his pocket and heading off to work. I also banned him from installing a heater for Mother Abigail in the pond. And I have been forced to lock away all shovels so that he cannot begin on the SECOND pond until next year. Someone has to stay level-headed around here!
