Long ago, in the dusty past of the internet, around the turn of the 21st century, the Internet was calm and tranquil, with only a few minor ripples here and there amongst its integral fabric.
Sites sat peacefully among one another, people used different sites, and all was well within the land...
One such site found itself growing rapidly, and with the onswell of members came a likewise swelling of the head.
The creator of this site became warped and twisted by the very site he had created, and sought nothing less than the total domination of his corner of the internet.
He gathered more and more power from the souls of the people he enslaved, and turned their addiction into cash, not only from subscriptions (so the people could taste more of the addictive qualities and 'rise above the plebs' ) but also from seriously bloating the number of people that visited him to advertisers, and charging them for advertising space.
Surrounding himself with toadies and sycophants, the sorcerer would emerge from his dark tower and rain vengance upon any who dared to voice their questions about his atrocities in the form of removing them from the site to prevent them from speaking out.
The people learned to fear the tyrant, and gradually most of the voices of dissent faded, until nobody blinked an eye when someone was struck down before them, as they could not afford to have the same fate befall them.
All seemed lost. |
