Default Starship Childrens Hospital

HAd the experience of having to spend Monday night in at Startship Childrens hospital and I must say i was 1000% UNIMPRESSED!!!

My son had a swelling in his groin area which i took him to the doctor for. the doctor referred us to the hospital in case it was testicle twist or a hernia.

Although we were on the grade 2 list... considered serious... it was 2am before he was admitted to a ward!!!

As it turns out it wasnt something that required surgery. He was diagnosed with Idiopathic scrotal swelling... which basically means he had a swollen scrotum( a nine year old with testicles like the elephant man) and they have no idea what caused it.

I cant fault the nurse we had during tuesday or the lovely surgeon who discharged us at 5-30pm tuesday afternoon( the fifth surgeon we saw)

However I HAVE to complain about the corporate control of the place. Mcdonalds is the only facility in Starship to provide food or drink. and is open restrictive hours. After 7pm Nothing is available for the starving kids or the frazzled mothers.
If like me you want a half decent coffee and something resembling food you have to go up to the main hospital building for a muffin break Which thankfully opens at 6-30am!!

grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
all the money that goes into that place to purchase original works of art... seems to me someone is spending the money on the wrong things

ok rant over

*hugs*

Sometimes I wonder if it is actually the health system that needs the surgery more urgently than the patients..... surgery to remove a cancerous growth called corporate values.

Oh dear that dosnt sound cool at all....

But I have to say my experiences with Starship have been nothing but fantastic....

My little boy had a diaphragmatic hernia, and the arse doctors in London said he was ok to fly...
He really wasnt :ox

We had a copter pick us up, and straight there to Starship, where they honestly took over, and made things a hell of a lot better, I found the whole thing amazing with the strength and support of the hospital staff, I had to stay there for a fortnight, with him, and even though there was no takeout foods, I really didnt give a shite, they were doing their job with my baby, sometimes we really do have to look at the bigger picture! :o0
These people are there to do a job, get a takeaway pizza if you feel that strongly, honestly, its no big deal.
