Default Sparklechick's rant for the day

You're talking but nobody is listening ...

Just a little moan from me.

I have been in a meeting all morning with my boss's direct reports (there are 5 of them). We were discussing HR issues/salaries/bonus payments etc etc.

Almost every time I had something to contribute to the conversation someone would talk over me and nobody would stop to say "hang on, Christy is talking", whereas they do if they interrupt each other.

It really pisses me off that they assume that because I am a PA and they are Managers, what I have to say can't be as important as what they have to say.

REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY pisses me off

*heads off to HR spreadsheet to give them all NO pay increases*

hahaha, I kinda have that problem here sometimes. then this one day I was so sick of it I put my Pen down on the desk really loudly and they all turned and looked at me and I just went "as I was saying..." . They don't tend to interupt me anymore.

I work in a team of 9 men and me, our meetings are horrible, thank goodness we have them only once a month.

They are horrible sometimes, always try and get me to take the minutes, and bake muffins and stuff! I know they are mostly joking but I have been in this team for 2.5 years now you would have thought they would have gotten over the joke by now!

My guys wouldn't DARE ask me to bake for them, neither do they ask me to make them tea/coffee etc.

Our meetings are held once a week and I have to attend two of them because I report to two GMs.

One team is great when it comes to hearing what I have to say, but the other one needs a bit of tutoring .... I'll soon sort them out.

Bummer Sparkly, it's one of the reasons why I dislike working for a boss. I've worked for a few since finishing my studies and I just decided to do my own thing. Now I own my own company and I don't need to look into a superior's eyes for my paycheck anymore which makes me extremely happy.

It is a hard problem. My reaction is sympathy. I had a similar problem and NEVER resolved it.

In my case, I was an Adviory Engineer at IBM. I worked in telephony engineering. And had been in the biz for about 30 years.

She, yes SHE, was an MBA with 2 years supervisory work in publications.

She would always finish my statements. And much more. I would be required to brief her on any presentation I would make and she would breeze into the room at the right moment and finish for me.

Twice she messed up and forgot parts, dinging me on reviews. What a pain. Nice to be gone.

I cannot help. Wish I knew the answer.

I would say really loudly "Hello, I'm talking, don't be so damn rude!" but hey, that's just me *shrug*
