| When I was a teenager my best friend and I produced an alcoholic drink called rocket fuel. That's pretty much what it tasted like too (not that I've ever tried real rocket fuel but you get the idea). I don't remember much from those parties ![]() | ||||

| It's probably a secret plot by the U.S government to se if people can live on rocket fuel when their space water runs out. | ||||

| We had a problem with dioxin in NZ milk for a little while when we changed from (reused) glass bottles to (recyclable) plastic bottles and (rubbish) paper cartons. The paper cartons were leeching dioxin into the milk from the paper. Eventually the problem was traced back to the way the paper was made and in particular the chlorine process to make it so white... which produced the dioxin. The process was then changed and the cartons aren't quite as shiny and white as they once were but the dioxin was gone ![]() The annoying part is that the strange (dioxin) peaks were in the gas chromomatagraph (sp?) results for the milk for about a year before it was considered to be a problem and tracked down ![]() | ||||

| *scratches head* Milk in glass bottles?? ![]() So did anyone suffer any ill effects from this dioxin in the milk? If it was left for so long was it left becuase it was not too much to worry about or were they trying to cover it up? | ||||
| ||||
| Back in the old days we had milk in glass bottles... probably when you were still in nappies Penny ![]() As for the length of time... I think it was because they were trying to work out where the contamination was coming from and then how to change the paper making process to stop it happening. | ||||

So did people suffer ill effects from it while they were finding out the problem? or did it go largely unnoticed?

| I think (someone please correct me if I am wrong) that dioxin builds up in your body a bit like mercury. Dioxin is the "nasty" in things like Agent Orange (used in the Vietnam war) and the weedkiller 2,4,5T and one of the most noticable effects is birth defects. However, as is usually the case, proving that the dioxin came from the milk cartons or from where ever can be just about impossible in a court of law (as a lot of Vets have discovered ) | ||||

because my brother would hide behind the bushes and jump out at me .... I never liked the long driveway walk to the letterbox to put out the bottles.My own fault really for being forgetful though I suppose. Remember when they had the silver top milk? It had a massive layer of cream on it ... everyone used to fight over it except me, because I never liked cream.

| well boys will be boys.... ! ![]() They don't stop doing that as they get older. I had the music up real loud at home in the weekend and Daniel came home and I was dancing around in the kitchen and he snuck up behind me and yelled in my ear, I jumped a mile. | ||||

| When I was 'younger' it was my job to pick up the milk bottles and replace them full ones... back in the old days | ||||
