| Ah, that explains why you want a ferret smiley then. I'm not sure if I can find one of those, but I'll give it a go. ![]() What is involved in pet sitting Jeni? | ||||
| ||||
| you take it out once in a while. you make sure that it has food and water. if you are pet sitting for a week or more you make sure that its cage is cleaned for the owner. most of all you make sure the pet has fun while the owner is away. | ||||

| Ferrets are great animals. Very intelligent and have this very uncanny sense for when people are stupid. Has the ferret bitten you yet Jeni? | ||||

The Ferret Keeper When i started with the telephone company back in '65, I worked with this guy named John. John had been with the telephone company since 1930. When he started, he was trained as a ferret keeper. The telephone company had ferrets. Yes, and they were working ferrets. A bit of background here. Underground cable is in conduit in the cities. To get it into the conduit, the cable is delivered on large reels. The reels are placed at the top of a manhole and the cable is pulled into the conduit with a piece of rope. This is called fishing the cable. Now comes the ferret. He pulls in a strong piece of thin fishing line. The line is used to pull in a rope and then a larger rope if neede. The ferret box was actually a two compartment cage. One for a ferret and one for a rat. Ferrets will chase rats through a conduit. The rat compartment was open to the conduit and the rat, smelling the ferret on the other side of the nearby door would charge into the conduit. The keeper would allow some time for the rat to get distance from the cage and then open the door for the ferret. The ferret would have a little harness and the line tied to the harness. At the other end, the keepers would have a receiving cage for the rat and one for the ferret. Neither woulld be hurt. Both would get a treat. End | ||||

| I dont like ferrets..Don't know what they are like as pets but as a feral animal they are very much on my anti-list. I had a lop-eared Rabbit called Thunderbolt, A Dwarf Rabbit called Mopsie and a Guinea pig called Yolee ( my son named them) Anyway Yolee and mopsie wern't as tame as Thunderbolt because when Thunderbolt first came to live with us he use to live in my bedroom, He had an amazing character and was very affectionate. When we moved to this place I constructed a couple of fences around my back yard and let the rabbits and guinea pig roam free. Providing them underground tunnels, Houses, all sorts of things. ( i dont like caged animals) The enclosure was dog proof and the cats wernt an issue because thunderbolt gave many an opportunistic cat a thrashing for getting to close to Mopsie. Alas we live near bush and a ferrat came out and slaughtered all three of my babies.... DOWN WITH THE VERMIN!!!! | ||||
