| Yesterday Eddie (#1 grandson) and I went car shopping. The rental car company Hertz sells its old (over 25K miles) to the public. So we go to see about a replacement for the blue Ford Taurus Station wagon (aka the boat moored to a gas pump). It was hit head on by a Saab station wagon on a mission. The insurance company sent a check that is short of the price of a used car of comprable everything. So, they have a 2003 Taurus sedan 4 door (27K miles) beautiful for $11,500. We get home and my wife is nothing but critical. This morning the paper is running an ad for the car and she is really troubled that HER car is about to be sold. Tommorow is payment day for the car. We will see. More then. Gads but I hate almost anything to do with cars! | ||||

| The Saga continues I had to pay for the car using a cashiers check. Every car dealer is ready to make a loan but go catatonic when you want to actually pay for the thing rather than go into hock for a bit. So I get the check and head to the dealer. Do the paper and all is good. Then I turn in the rental. "Oh, you have 2 more days." "Well I bought a car and do not need the extra days." Then they check and they owe me money. Back in the beginning I had put down $100 for the rental. "The downtown branch will send a check." "Wonderful" So I go home Downtown calls. "Where is our car" "At the check in in Burlingame. You approved the dropoff." "Thanks, Bye." 5 minutes. Phone rings. "This is downtown. You owe us for five days rental." "Burlingame says you owe me." "No, our computer notes are always correct. So we will pay you $53." I am stunned. Did I stumble through the rabbit hole? "So you will pay me $53" "Yes" "But I should be getting $73" The delta is that the car came with a tank of gas that they deduct $26 and change for" "No $53 is correct" "OK send the check" "No you owe us" "I am calling claims and letting them work it out. "Did you find your car?" "No, we trust you." As I look furtively around for the rabbit. More later. Lets hope not | ||||

| So,m no call from the rental company. But, the car has suffered, after only one night. One of the lens covering the tail light is broken. Just a slight piece gone. But it is an emotional letdown to know that this has happened, only hours after getting it. Gosh, darnit | ||||

| Do not know. Rose went to her mothers last evening. It could have happened there. I think it most likely that it happened while someone was parking behind or pulling from a spot. But the broken piece was gone. So I think her moms place. When I got the car, I checked for all manner of damage and found none. Being an Okie. Not one who plays ookie biskit or what ever, I would be happy with a rusty old pickup truck that no selfrespecting thief would steal and if some one hit, I could just pry the metal away from the wheels and drive away. I would leave the keys in it always. Air conditioning is simply windows that go up or down. Up for winter, down for summer. Must have a tow ball. For the 12 foot flat bow fishing boat. The rust could hide the original paint color. Gosh, I do not like cars and the culture they create. | ||||
