According to a 3 news report, some Maori, not content with attempting to claim ownership of the Seabed and Foreshore, are now claiming ownership of the Sky above, and feel that Airlines and NASA should pay them to move through it.

I say this is a little crazy.

Like most IT-minded folk I want to see free and open ownership of more things - particularly the spectrum. Nobody needs to own it, we just all have to go digital. Then we can broadcast whatever we want as much and as hard as we want.

I have no problem with Maori radio being assigned a chunk of spectrum to promote their culture (and I take exception to George FM using it like a joke) but I don't think a minority should be assigned ownership of a commodity for their economic benefit. They can struggle in the mud with the rest of us for fucks sake.
