| i just requested a book online from The Manukau libraries, I was quite impressed, I have always been impressed with their easy to use searching, and enjoy the Botany library now that has opened. BUT the one thing I didn't like was that I thought I had to go back to the library to keep checking on a book. I hate talking to people at the library, I don't know why I just do it annoys me, maybe a bad eperience when I was younger.... SO I went on the net to see if it has times that the library is open, and noticed you can search if the book is there or not, so I did a search saw it was still on loan, and thought its good I can check from my computer chair, then I noticed a wee link, "request book" clicked it and thought brilliant I can do this, had to enter in my library card number and a pin, I was thinking "argh I don't have a pin" so I tried a "standard" one, and it worked. So now all I have to do is wait. but thats pretty cool... anyway pretty geeky to I spose. | ||||

| Standard for you or standard as in 1234? I, too, am held back by the arduous journey to the library. And any sort of online ordering inappropriately excites me. And what's the address for the site? | ||||

| ummmmm ahhhhh errrrrr dunno, I went to the Manukau City Council website, and clicked on links from there. But you in Auckland so it might be different, but it would be good if all libraries did something like that, its an Online world now. | ||||

| Hi NIH and Penny I have a link to the San Francisco library on my site. I request books, vcr tapes, dvd and cds. Then they are sent to the branch I specify and when that is done, and the book is ready, they email that it is there. I get books for the entire family on my card. Lets see, thats ....7 people. I can have 50 text, and about 6 of each of the other media. I usually have 17 to 20 items at a time. Renew on line. Always. If the book or other has been requested, then I have to return it when due ( or pay .10 per day fine, 1.00 for vcr tape) I am rarely overdue. My routine is to do a quick look at the due and coming due. Best bargain in town. It is truely a great thing. | ||||

| Renewing online sounds like a great idea. I now remember entering a PIN when I signed up as well Penny. I wondered what it was for at the time. I believe all the Central and South Auckland libraries share books, so presumably they're on the same site. | ||||

| ohhhh... I thought the Manuaku City Libraries and Auckland ones would be different. My card says "Manukau Libraries" yes Renewing online sounds good, might have saved my NINE dollar fine thats for sure! | ||||

| I haven't been to the library in years. I tend to buy my books or borrow from friends/family. I'm pretty bad at getting books back to the library on time so it's better that I just borrow from other people. I just bought the new Bridget Jones book which has been rather enjoyable so far. | ||||

| Well I hadn't but then I was spending lots of money on books I wasn't reading again, and so I figured I had to save money, so even if I am late with my books (thank goodness for online renewing now though!) $9 is still ok if i stuff up. Cheaper than buying the books though. | ||||
