Default Laci Peterson Case

This case intrigues me, I don't know what to think. It was all prompted from watching the dvd "The Perfect Husband". I got it becuase it stared Dean Cain!

It was based on the Laci Peterson Case, and told through her friends eyes.

I went online to find out more information about this case, and found that the trial was underway.

The basic facts are, Laci Peterson was 8 months pregnant, and went missing on Christmas eve, they were found 4 months later (washed up on a beach) and her husband was arrested for their murders.

The husband claims he was out fishing, and laci was meant to walk their dog and meet them. The movie shows that everybody thought they were the perfect couple and noone could suspect him.

He was having an affair with another women, who when she found out the man she was seeing was the same man whose wife was missing she went to the police.

Initial evidence seems to point to the fact he did it. However some evidence then comes in, that people reported sightings of Laci on the morning that were never investigated, and that the baby may have been born and lived 5 days longer than the day laci disapeared.

There is also talk of a Satanic cult type sacrifice.

There is a website that shows full details, including transcripts of telephone calls etc. http://www.courttv.com/trials/peterson/

This is an interesting case and I will find it interesting to see the verdict. After reading all I have, and seeing the movie, I am not sure that he did do it. He did though try to run away, died his hair grew a Moustache etc, which someone who was innocent probably wouldn't do.

However I still don't know all the facts. I get the feeling that they focused on the husband in their investigations without investigating other options.

It's natural that they'd suspect the husband.

Perhaps a case of lazy lawmen? Can't be bothered figuring out what really went on. Wanting to make a quick conviction so the public still have faith in the police.

I'd be interested to know what happens in this case Penny so can you keep us up to date?

Yeah there wasn't an update on the website yesterday.. they reckoned November 3 is when they expect the Jury to go out. Summing up the next couple of days.

sounds pretty interesting. Looks like I will have to get the vid out and follow the website.

It is usually the husband or family they look in to first. Even when that farmer that got shot and killed recently the first thing the police thought was family because someone mentioned the dogs didnt bark and that was enough for them to follow that lead.

Well I was thinking that me talking about posting a booie event here for people to bet on the outcome would have been quite cool, but maybe a little tasteless. So didn't. I was reading on the website, that there has so far been $30000 placed on internet gambling sites on the outcome!

I was reading the Prosecutions summing up (well a summary of it) and it seems like they couldn't even say if she was strangled or smothered or either, they think that Scott Peterson Strangled or Smothered her. I thought they could find those things out now days, you know like marks on her neck etc.

Wasn't the body found washed ashore? You know what bodies in water DO, right? It's a whole science just making sure they're human.

I'd still hit it.

Yep I watched thaT DVD the other day, and found it really intriguing, I thought it was kinda weird how they did the movie, before the outcome...

Also find it weird that the baby was born and left on the beach...

Very sad

Yeah, but they are calling it a "fetus" in the court preceedings, don't know what difference that makes...*wishes she completed that law degree!* haha.

yeah it was sad, I think they made the movie, becuase they wanted to get a bit of public interest in the case, apprentley that makes a difference.

As for the baby, There seems to be some dispute as to whether the baby died with laci, or whether the baby was born and handled outside the womb, the defence are arguing the latter, the prosecution, I believe are arguing the first.

The jury panel is now deliberating. Must be hard waiting for all the family members.

I think we've all learned a very important lesson from this one:

Do not go swimming after eating or whilst giving birth as you may develop a cramp. Thank you.

I was talking to an american on another site that watches Court tv as much as she watches baseball (Which I am assuming its allot), apart from still getting over them having a whole tv station dedicated to these sort of cases, She reckons that it will either be a hung jury or guilty. There is lots of media coverage about it over there.

He was found Guilty of first degree murder of his wife, and second of his son,

the penalty part fo the trial will be in November, where they will decide whether he will be sentenced to death or life in prison without parole....

which brings up the topic of the death penalty... I don't think I should get into it though.
