Default HP scanners - a short tail

I have an HP 3200c scanner.

For some months it has not been needed. So it sat, gathering dust and a small stack of papers. Then I needed it for some photo scans.

A message tells me there is no scanner attached to the computer.

No matter what I did, it did not work.

So, I finally want to the HP site (www.hp.com) did an immidiate search for the scanner number and the first thing was my error message and solutions.

So do not bounce the thing off the wall. There is probably a fix.

Also, I have one machine with win 98 and one with win XP. The machine with XP will need the upgrade from HP for the 3200c to work. Soft copy is, I think free. When I got mine, I bought the CD for about 10 bucks.

peace

I had a similar thing happen with my old scanner, a Mustek one that connected to the PC or Printer via a LPT (Printer) cable...the driver install involved altering my registry so that XP thought that it was Win 2000 before starting.

Now I have a USB connected Lexmark X1185 that copies/scans/prints/faxes (if I could work out how to make it fax over the ADSL router.)

Over the last year, I have seen, maybe, 10 scanners awaiting garbage pickup. Mine is not fast and not a lot of pixels. But it is ok. And, well, its paid for.

Peace
