| OK so I've decided to go back to work, so in order to get a job I have to organise childcare. Well neither is easy. We are intitled to the working for families childcare subsidy for up to 50 hours, we get this once I can confirm im in paid employment. Anyways Ive applyed for at least 7 jobs in the past 2 days and been for once interview on monday, so while Im waiting for interview etc I thought Id better suss out childcare facilities. What a F**ken drama, this is what I have found out so far most are only open 9 - 4 the ones that open at 7.30 and close at 5.30 are all booked out and have a waiting list the length of my arm By shear luck I have found one that is open all day and has a vacancy and it it the best childcare center I have seen so far, the problem is they will only hold the vacancy for two weeks and If I dont have a job by then WINZ have said they will help me pay for nine hours and I would have to pay the other 116.00 a week just to keep the vacancy open. What cracks me up is they( GOVT ) want all the single mums to get a job and to put their children in to care yet we dont have enough preschools or childcare centres to cater for it. I have never been so frustrated and so worried that If I dont get a job then I lose the placement. | ||||

| Have you tried talking to a case worker at Winz? They're pretty good at helping you find work too, they call you and set up interviews for you if they think it's good for you.... they helped me out a lot. | ||||

| Why not try going to another branch? If you are doing all you can for your kids and to get a job, they need to recognise that. Tell them what you want them to do for you and don't let up until they come up with something. If you're still having issues, make a complaint. | ||||

| You will probably find this is policy and as much as it doesn't work nobody that can actually do something will get off their arse and change the policy. They keep saying they want to get people back into the work force but then they keep putting hurdles in the way, almost in the way that a cat will toy with a mouse it has caught. It is just bullshit. And it isn't like the childcare can charge any less when in the news yesterday (or was it the day before?) some are having to keep the kids inside on sunny days because they can't provide adequate protection from sunburn as the childcare centre isn't able to put up a shade sail as the cost for the consents (Resource Management Act and building permit) are too high. Dam bureaucracy ![]() | ||||

I dont think I have come across any situation as frustrating as this, I mean its not winz"s fault the childcare centres don't open long enough, they did refer me to barnadoes which I did consider but I dont like the idea of it being 1:4 ratio it is the same in preschool but the thing I like about the preschool is there is more than 1 carer and the place is open. With barnardoes you dont know who they have comin and going during the day. | ||||

| Yay I've got a job which means I get to keep the vacancy at the preschool that I liked, and I start monday. Now I have to get used to not seeing my wee girl everyday ![]() | ||||
