Hot Chocolate for me.

There's a coffee shop near here that serves what the call the Massimo, which is basically a double handled soup bowl full of hot chocolate.

I get a warm comfortable feeling just thinking about it.

Coffee?

Now I like that iced.

What Is Ovaltine, Please?
By Brendan I. Koerner

Associated British Foods recently paid over $270 million to purchase the Ovaltine beverage line from Novartis AG, a Swiss conglomerate. What exactly is Ovaltine?

Familiar to generations of kids as a chocolaty treat, Ovaltine was originally concocted as a nutritional supplement for those in need of more rounded diets. In the late 19th century, Swiss chemist Georg Wander invented a cheap process to harvest malt extract, a syrup derived from malted barley that's commonly used by beer brewers. The barley was first allowed to germinate, or sprout rootlets, in a moist environment. Wander then used a vacuuming process to dehydrate this softened grain, leaving behind a thick, sweet goo. He hoped this syrup, once fortified with goodies like vitamin D and phosphorous, would someday win the world's battle against malnutrition.

I was always a coffee drinker and then.

I took a job in Saudi putting in 10 meter dishes. Actually the CCITT5 to R2 conversion.

Tea was everywhere.. So I bought a 100 riyal ($28) box of bulk tea. This stuff was so strong that when brewed gave you something to chew for the rest of the morning. 2 people, 1 pot. high all day and if you did not cut it off about 3 hours before bedtime - forget sleep.

The box was about a foot on each side, made of wood, lined with a waterproof tar paper and wrapped in burlap. Well, they told me it was tea.

Ovaltine is a good thing. Used to have it in the mornings when I was just a lad.

I doubt we'd find that in any supermarket over here.

You'd probably have to travel up north for special tea like that

It really was not pot. But brewed up it was something that Jolt cola could have only hoped for. It was really strong. It really was tea. But it was like ... chewable.

When I think back on those days and watch TV, the only comparison is qat. That crap the Yemeni are chewing.

Maybe that was a component.

Not sure.

But now the drink of choice is tea. Tetley Tea. Or Lipton, or Earl Grey or Lapsang.

Do you have Dilmah tea over there?

That's my favourite.
