Everyone who has a Windows-based operating system will have Internet Explorer (IE) because it is impossible to remove.

This topic is to discuss other options.

I am currently in favour of Mozilla's Firefox.

Its main feature is the Tabbed browsing, meaning you only have the one button on your main taskbar, with all the webpages being in one window.

It's fast, and non-bloatey too.

Get Firefox

Also, it blocks popups.

"Firefox stops annoying popup windows dead in their tracks. Experience the web as it was supposed to be - peaceful, convenient, accessible.

Some sites make legitimate use of popup windows. When Firefox blocks a popup window, it displays an icon in the status bar. Clicking this icon shows a breakdown of the popup(s) that Firefox stopped when loading the current page. You can then allow some or all of the popup windows to be shown. "

Windows XP SP2 blocks popups as well.

I've got Firefox but find it just the same as IE really.

I tend to switch between firefox and opera in windows, I dont like the way that firefox handles tabs compared to Opera, but it tends to have many fewer troublesome sites. IE gives me the heeby jeebies. I will actually revert to original Mosaic before opening an IE window

I did reviews of sites. At the moment, I am using IE. It came in the box with XP.

When I was an Advisor at Sitepoint, I had two IEs, two Netscapes and Opera installed.

Someone would submit a site for review and I would load it on each and have a look.

A favorite? Probably IE. Just because it is there. Bad reason.

But I do like Opera. I like the feel of it. I took it off because I had not paid for it. One day I will have the $50 for it. Just not right now. And if it is less than I anticipate, I will remove it and that will be OK.

When I was still on Windows XP I had hectic problems with IE so I tried out FireFox and it pretty much settled it for me.

Now that I'm back on Windows 2000, I've had no real problems with IE so I guess I'll be sticking to it for now.

I haven't tried Opera yet, so I can't give my honest opinion on it but from what I have heard, it's a pretty good piece of software.

Apparently Opera doesn't like NZB overly much...people have reported problems with the Arcade.

Hi Kall

The Arcade probleem I had was with my firewall.

When I play neopets, I have to drop part of the firewall. Same with NZboards so it is not unique nor is it a real problem.

Cookie Control and Ad blocking are the two I need to drop in Zone Alarm.

No big deal.

I am a firefox guy myself. I have very few issues with it, and tabbed browsing alone makes it superior to IE at this point.

I get tripped up because Firefox doesn't show broken images at all, so am usually blissfully unaware that something isn't there till I check it with IE.

The problems with compatability have been around since the start.

NN4.7 is still out there and any use of CSS make NN4.7 go catatonic.

Kevin Yank did an excellent article on how to code break points for the various browser capabilities.

http://www.sitepoint.com/article/bro...uck-php-rescue

It is a good read.
