Default Afghans

The other day, Mr Spxoobg came to me asking if I would impart some of my culinary knowledge to him.

He needed to take some home-baked goods to work for an alcohol fundraising mission of some description, and had decided on Afghans, cos he knew I could instruct him on how to make them.

Anyway:

Biscuits
  • 200g Butter
  • 1/2 Cup Sugar
  • 1 1/2 Cups flour
  • 1 1/2 Cups cornflakes
  • 3 Tablespoons cocoa

Icing
  • 1 1/2 Cups icing sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • Dribble of vanilla essence
  • Some boiling water
  • walnuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 180 degrees C.
Cream butter and sugar.
Stir in sifted flour and cocoa.
Knead in cornflakes.
Form into balls and squash down onto greased pan.
Bake at 180 for 15 minutes or until done. Keep an eye on them for the last 5 mins...if you smell burning, they are all screwed.

Make icing by mixing all ingredients (except walnuts) together untill they are the right consistency.

Ice biscuits when cool.

Allow to cool, then ice.

After doing a bit of a search, all I could find was that they are probably named because of the colour.

It has nothing to do with Afghanistan.
