| Hi, I've just set up a service offering 100MB free to people looking to set up business/advertising/home biz websites. If anyone is interested either reply to me or send me a PM. PG | ||||

| http://www.hostingdirect.co.nz/ offer this to NZ sites too. Good to see that free hosting is FINALLY coming to NZ | ||||

| Free is always nice but... when it comes to hosting, I would prefer to have the security of knowing that my host is required to do stuff for me when I need it. You get what you pay for. ![]() | ||||

| I'm not allowed to post URLs just yet as I'm only a newbie, so I'll have to bide my time The hostingdirect package is pretty small, 10MB, 1 POP3, etc - the one I'm offering is going to be 100MB unbannered space on linux core hosts, and a pop3 free, with access to heaps of add-ons. As I said, it's for business/advertising/home biz websites, for those new to websites and basically they'll get an extension of the newbiz domain. So if anyone would like a bit of free hosting that they'll utilise, let me know - i'll post the url when my post count is high enough! PG | ||||

| That's where I fall into line with kall, free hosts should only be used for sites you don't care too much about - kiddie sites, test sites, etc. If the host isn't propping up the business with a banner or ads of some sort then how are they funded? if they have a funding crisis will they force you to upgrade to a paid plan? or will your site disappear overnight? I don't have the answers for woolyg or hostingdirect, but if the site is hosted for free you need to ask those questions. | ||||

| Basically I have 30GB of paid-up hosting to play with - I'm not using NEAR that amount, so i thought I'd offer it up for use by people who would use it. I have no intention of cancelling the hosting, and pulling the rug out from under people. I've set 10GB of it aside for business/advertising/home biz people to use, as I've got a small business myself. As users need more features on their space, such as a shopping cart / MYSQL database, there will be a small (max. $10) admin charge a month for use of the extra feature. Those who use the service without any extra features don't pay a cent, so it's free for them. I thought it would be a good way to get newbie site developers used to the interweb. Any thoughts? | ... and it won't have a funding crisis, as my main site is paying for the hosting in itself! ![]() | ||||
