The Washing of the Spears: A History of the Rise of the Zulu Nation Under Shaka and Its Fall in the Zulu War of 1879 by Donald R. Morris, Mangosuthu Chief Buthelezi What a book. What a time. What people. Dutch, English, Zulu. Treks. The movie Zulu was from one chapter of the book. Like all movies about battles and wars and people, it matters which side tells the tale.

11 Harrowhouse and Stone 588 from Gerald A. Browne

I do not think of trees. I think of scrub grass. Sand and red mud when it rains.

I do not know why I do not think green. I worked in Lagos, Nigeria for a bit and then in Saudi. I think more of the saudi landscape than the Nigerian green. (Nigerian thought: Wonderful country wonderful people, horrid government)
