You have to wonder about it when a company (Halliburton) that had Vice Pres Cheney on it's board of directors (until just before the election) has the contracts to supply the US armed forces with their fuel, their advanced supply bases, their water pruified water plants etc.
To me it sounds a bit like a backhander... or even jobs for the boys... or even (to use stronger terms) a bribe / payoff.

I suppose that many kiwis and others outside the USA have a slightly different news source and we sometimes get comment from independant reporters like Robert Fisk rather than just the embeded journalists that are being nursemaided around the 'battlefield' by their CIA guides being shown only what propaganda will add to public opinion for the 'war' back home.

Has anybody else noticed that as soon as the woman in some of the prision abbuse photos was put in front of a court the information in the press dried up? Could it be that the powers that be didn't want us to read in the page 1 headlines that she was only following orders?

I am just glad that Ed is on this site and sharing his opinions about the unfortunate situation many of his country men and women find themselves in when their "elected" (I might do a thread on the flaws of the electronic voting machines in the future) officials deceive them and wage war on another country in the name of world peace and WMD when really it is about the control of oil supplys over the next decades.
In the US there is news and there is news. Some spin some is less spin. By now it is established that the presidents information on which we went to war was at best, unreliable. The motivations varied depending on the initial stand. The neoconns had their PNAC. And even as Chaney was and is a signer of PNAC, he is also Halliburton. Bush need, how shall I say, a bush to hide behind. so the war would have provided that. But WMD did not exist. Al-Queda had about as much contact with Iraq as two forms of commute, both had passangers.

The Bush agenda was to drop the American credit so far into the hole that there would be no money for social programs. Iraq provided the hole. So he has begun the death of Social Security, Medicare and any other welfare program available. (remember the fight when the Clintons wanted socialized meds? Part of the fight is a continuation of that). While driving up the debt with the war, he has accelerated the process with tax cuts. In the US, 60% of all money producing items, stocks, bonds, land, etc is owned by 1% of the people. They are getting the vast majority of the refunds.

The military is bassically mercinary. Most joined for education bennies. Bush has cut military benefits at every turn.

This guy has been a disaster. From my view. If I had 20 mil then he would be a great success. Maybe. Depends on the quality of the Labotomy.

No, we are getting the news but the ignorance rate has risen with the Bush assendancy.
