I think the ad is just targetting those people who do get out of control when they drink. It's certainly not targetting those who can handle their drink and are happy to stop before they get out of control.

I think they're a bit lame but certainly true for some people.

Back in the day I used to drink to get excessively drunk - it's just what we did, now I don't like the feeling of being out of control and I certainly don't like hangovers so I don't drink to excess any more.

As you get older it takes a hell of a lot longer time to get rid of a hangover too. I used to be able to go out and drink every Friday and Saturday night, now if I drink excessively on a Friday night I have to spend the entire Saturday suffering for it. It's not pleasant at all really!
