Default Hope I'm doing this right!

I've been facinated with NZ ever since A NZ primeminister told the US Navy to get rid of their nuclear weapons or go elsewhere for refueling. I'm a progressive politically & a liberal thinker. I happen to live in one of the most conservitive & religously repressive places in the US (Fort Worth, Texas is the "most repuplican city" in the US). Even belonging to a progressive church community doesn't keep the feeling of repression away.
I'm wondering if NZ is a country with open political discussion. Where people can disagree & still remain friends. Where the govn't considers the wellbeing of all their citizens not just the rich ones.
I look forward to learning more about NZ.
