I had to take the long way home tonight . . .
I got a call at work saying that the fishing guide had been bringing our guests home, and had been stopped by a flooded culvert, so they turned back, only to find that a large slip had come down behind them
They broke into a farm cottage, and called our place, then found the occupant's stock of beer, so settled in for the night . . .
Said occupant arrived home shortly, after taking a few run-ups at the slip in his Falcon ute. He'd been at the pub, so was feeling somewhat invincible
Just a short while ago we went down the road to survey the devestation, and found that the culvert had been half washed out, but was passable now the water had gone down

So we went on to the cottage to find all three sitting round getting stuck into the booze! The guide swore that you couldn't get a motorbike through that slip, let alone a car, but it was obviously no match for a drunk shepherd in a ute
So, it all turned out not too badly, but I hope the slip has been cleared up by the time I go to work tomorrow afternoon . . . I had an incident on the way home myself, just over the hill from home, where debris was strewn across the road, and obscured by steam rising off the warm tarmac. My choices were to brake, and risk a lock-up, or take the chance that the debris wasn't too solid
Fortunately, Option B did the trick! What a day . . .
