UPDATE

I am now the proud owner of a Sony DSC-P100 Cybershot 5.1 Megapixel camera with a Carl Zeiss lens and a 32MB memory stick. www.dpreview.com review

After a lot of hunting around Auckland I found prices for this model ranging from the Recommended Retail Price of $799, one shop for $699 but with a free 128MB memory stick through to one at Parallel Imported for $499.

I would have preferred to support the NZ distributor network, but can someone explain to me what I am getting for that extra $300 (60%) markup when compared to something parallel imported?

Sure, the one I got came with a British 'fused plug' on the battery charger but the shop included a NZ lead in the deal for free so it wasn't a problem.

All I have to do now is get a 128MB memory stick and learn how to use things like the 'burst' mode before the motor racing on the 15th.
Oh, and I can recommend the manual for midnight reading for insomniacs as it nearly put me to sleep after about 50 pages (of the 150) in the middle of the afternoon.
