Default re: Child Proof Lighters

Exactly, so if a responsible parent needs to smoke (and therefore light the smoke) then they can keep the lighter in their pocket or something rather than leaving it for the child to play with.

I am looking at the bigger picture and not just lighters here, sure we can make a "child proof" item like a lighter to prevent a child from harming themselves but often it makes the item unusable for adults (and not just physically or mentally challenged adults) but at the end of the day there are only so many things we can make safe.

Does anybody have figures on how many NZ children lost their lives or were seriously injured / scared through playing with lighters last year?
And then how about some figures for physical (or sexual) abuse of children resulting in death or life long trauma... Which one will be a larger number, I am picking the abuse

So short of wrapping our children in bubble wrap how do we keep them safe?
Well how about we take responsibility to care for them and to keep them safe rather than letting them run wild and injure themselves?
