Default Internet connections revisited

Is there no end to the madness?

After resolving the problem of Iconz's usage pages going down, I was hit with severe connectivity problems.

Now, I'm so close to the sky tower I can freakin' smell it. There are no conceivable problems with my connection apart from the management of it at their end. Regardless, I've barely been able to connect home with FTP or remote desktop in a week. WoW has simply sucked. Hosting has been impossible.

So I check out their prices for fibre here.

Very affordable, and no traffic cap. The problem seems to be with Wired Country this time, and they would end up being the fibre provider under the new plan as well as Iconz being the ISP. Maybe I'm backing a losing horse, or maybe it'll all work out. Presumably the 2mbit is syncronous too, not 250kdown/90kup async bullshit they have on wireless. With a connection like that I know enough friends of the family who'd switch their website and email hosting that it'd almost be paid for.

Either way, the cost they don't mention is the $500 fibre installation. I already have a $250 credit with them and I figure they can add the $70 wireless installation and $250 router to that too, since it's not working out.

What do you guys think? Is fibre the mecca I seek, or am I just throwing stones at pillars?
