Default Can your employer tell you when to take your leave?

I have a question for all you knowledgeable people.

Can your boss tell you when you have to take leave? I knwo if you don't use it up they can, but I am not in that situation,

I wanted to take time off over christmas and then go back to work for the 5th Jan and then take a week off when my dad comes over from the 17th Jan to the 21st.

When I gave my boss my leave forms he asked me what I was doing for the weeks inbetween and I told him I was working. He then said to me "He wanted to have all the team off for that week" a discussion was had, then he was still fairly set on this, everybody have that time off, and then he said he would think about it that day, and that was 1 month ago and he never got back to me.

I am assuming that because he didn't get back to me, the leave as it is is fine, and so I will do that, unless he says something else,

but My Mum keeps going on about how he can't do that anyway, and I just wanted to know if they can or not, as I don't know.
