Default Coldfusion - and not the cheap power source . . .

OK, so I thought to myself, "Mr Styx, you are woefully inadequate in so many areas of web design. Sure, everyone speaks HTML, but to really make yourself understood, you need to learn a new language or two."

So, how about this PHP stuff? Useful? Versatile? What about writing .asp pages?

And Coldfusion? Is it a better partner for databases than other varieties? I'd like to work with it, but can anyone point me to a CFML editor that doesn't cost me my first-born child? Like, free?

I'm sure there are plentiful tutorials on using these languages out in the webscape, but having software do half the work really appeals to my lazy nature

Apart from my general feeling of inadequacy, I have a specific agenda that requires the use of database-dealing language/s
